Thinking Of You Ottawa
Yes, I have been following on CBC today the tragic news out of Ottawa. My heart plus thoughts and prayers go out to Cpl. Nathan Cirillo of Hamilton who was killed today guarding the National War Memorial. Yes, we have hockey tonight but it won't be the same, sporting events are secondary when tragedy strikes like it did today. May this world which seems to be closing in on us become a better place, one where we can go through our daily routines without fear of violence.

The California Goalies
from Jamie McLellan of TSN, Right now, Quick is the best in the game at tracking pucks. A lot of times when we talk about a goalie who is 'seeing the puck well,' this is exactly what we mean. It's his ability to find pucks through bodies, arms and any other traffic jams that are going on in front of him. We all know of his flexibility, his lateral movement and his competitiveness. He's putting it to good use by finding pucks other goaltenders are unable to track consistently right now.&n...

Five-Year Extension For Charlie Coyle In Minnesota
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has agreed to terms with forward Charlie Coyle on a five-year contract extension.  “We’re very excited to get Charlie Coyle signed through the 2019-20 season,” said Fletcher. “Charlie’s size, overall skill set, and character give him a chance to emerge as a top power forward in the game and we’re happy he will be doing that in...

Bruins Prepare For Johnny Boychuk’s Return Tomorrow
from Joe Haggerty of CSNNE, “It’ll be awkward. I’ve played with him for a while, and some guys have played with him for five plus years,” said Seidenberg. “It’s definitely going to be a bit of a different feeling when guys have to fore-check him, and have to hit him. Or when I stand in front of the net and he shoots. “It’ll be different, but in the end it’s about winning a hockey game. We’re focusing on that. It’s funn...

NHL Postpones Leafs/Senators Game Tonight
NEW YORK/TORONTO (October 22, 2014) – The game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators, scheduled for tonight at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, has been postponed, the National Hockey League announced today. The date and time of the rescheduled game will be announced at a later date. The National Hockey League wishes to express its sympathy and prayers to all affected by the tragic events in Ottawa. added 1:54pm, Statement from the Toronton Maple Leafs &ld...

Trade Options For The Detroit Red Wings
from Dan Rosen of NHL.com who answers some questions from fans... They've been targeting defensemen since the summer and I wouldn't count on general manager Ken Holland stopping until he gets one. They wanted Dan Boyle, but he went to the New York Rangers. Christian Ehrhoff was another one, but he went to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now it's going to have to happen in a trade, and you've probably heard Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers come up in rumors with the Red Wings. TSN's Bob...

The New Look Nashville Predators
from Katie Strang of ESPN, I still think the Nashville Predators are bound to come back to earth following their hot start to the season -- one that has them with the surprising lead in the stacked Central Division -- but the Preds secured another win Tuesday night, downing the Arizona Coyotes 4-3. New coach Peter Laviolette might have revitalized this team with a needed change in message, but Tuesday's win also underscored some key offseason moves by general manager David Poile. more...

The Star Player And Barry Trotz
from Mark Spector of Sportsnet, We’re still in the honeymoon of this relationship, with the Capitals unbeaten at 3-0-2 as they open their three-game Western Canadian swing against the Edmonton Oilers tonight. Yet it seemed fitting to ask Trotz, Washington’s fifth head coach since Ovechkin entered the league in 2005, how he plans to get the 51 goals out of his superstar winger, but shore up the minus-35 defensive rating. “Dominik Hasek used to say, a star player star...

Slava Voynov’s Attorney Says There Was No Crime
from Ken Campbell of The Hockey News, The lawyer for Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov said he interviewed the victim of Voynov’s alleged domestic abuse incident for more than an hour Tuesday and, “it’s clear to me there was no crime here,” and doubts his client will even be charged with an offense. Craig Renetzky, a criminal lawyer who is representing Voynov in the matter, said the language barrier, both on the part of Voynov and the alleged victim, h...

NHL Short Notes
COMEBACKS, OVERTIMES HIGHLIGHT TUESDAY’S GAMES Of the 10 games contested Tuesday:   * Seven saw a team overcome a deficit at any point in the game to pick up a win (BOS, NYR, TOR, MTL, NSH, FLA, TBL).   * Six were tied or within one goal entering the third period (SJS-BOS, NYR-NJD, DET-MTL, ARI-NSH, FLA-COL, TBL-CGY).   * Five featured a third-period comeback that eventually led to a win (BOS, NYR, MTL, NSH, TBL).   * Five went past regulation, including fou...

How’s John Tortorella And Other Ex-Coaches
from James Duthie of TSN, I get asked about Tortorella more than anyone else. He is the poster boy for how opposite a personality a man can have when he isn't in front of the microphones every night defending his power play. When he was at TSN, Torts was church-boy polite. Shy almost. He would struggle not to doze off during the double-headers because his usual bedtime is 9pm. Our top-ten lists show the one or two short clips when he got angry on the panel, ripping Sean Avery and The Qui...

NHL Broadcast Battle In Canada
via the CP at CBC, Two of Canada's largest sports broadcasters are facing off over whose customers get free access to exclusive NHL content. Bell TV says that the GamePlus mobile app should be made available for free to all NHL GameCentre Live subscribers, not just those who are customers of Rogers Communications. Bell makes the demand in a filing to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. The owner of TSN and other businesses that compete with Rogers...

Video- Clint Malarchuk On His Mental Illness
via TSN Tube, Former NHL goalie Clint Malarchuk, joined by his good friends Steve Ludzik and Rick Dudley, shared his bouts with mental illness and the story about his road to recovery on Off the Record with Michael Landsberg.

The Suspension Of Slava Voynov
from Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, If the NHL waits for the legal process to play out before lifting Slava Voynov’s indefinite suspension, he will almost certainly end up serving one of the longer bans in league history. Consider: The Los Angeles Kings are scheduled to play 18 times before the defenceman is even due in court on Dec. 1 — and that could be just the beginning if domestic abuse charges are pursued against him in California. Some cases drag on for years. Ab...
